We’re merely days into New York Fashion Week, but a few big trends are already starting to emerge. The most intriguing of the bunch is the faux crop top: something that looks like it could be a crop top/skirt set, but is, in fact, one piece.
We saw the look take off on the Chanel Spring 2014 Couture runway, where Karl Lagerfeld presented crop tops that bared sequins instead of skin. For Fall 2014, the look is a little bit more wearable and covered up. So far, Sally LaPointe, 10 Crosby Derek Lam, and Erin Fetherson have presented their takes on the new trend; we can’t wait to see who else joins the party this week!
Sally LaPointe’s faux crop tops feel elegant and fresh. The designer stuck to black and white and showed the look in the form of a cocktail dress and a stunning jumpsuit. Here, the “crop tops” swing out in a ‘60s mod silhouette- so on-trend.
Where Sally LaPointe’s take was sleek & modern, Erin Fetherson opted for her usual girly, romantic aesthetic. A black and white ball gown is traditional but unique with the addition of the faux crop, and a floral minidress is a more casual version of the same concept.
Derek Lam took the look up a notch with his oxblood leather faux crop top dress. Instead of sleek romance, Lam gives off edgy-glam vibes. We’re obsessed.
What do you think about this new trend? Love or hate?
